Village SOS - As seen on TV

The School of Food is very much part of the Tideswell community. It's a local resource for local people as well as a professionally run cookery school.

Taste Tideswell is a BIG Lottery / Village SOS funded project with a mission to create “a thriving, prosperous community sustained by its own food economy.”

The Village SOS series aired on BBC One in August and September 2012, Taste Tideswell and the Tideswell School of Food project was shown sixth in the series on Wednesday 7th September at 8pm. Find out more about the Village SOS programme here

The Taste Tideswell project plans to treble the local food economy by developing the artisan food industry and improve everyone’s expertise in growing, making, cooking, and selling good food. To find out more visit the Taste Tideswell website.

Part of Village Life

The School of Food is very much part of the Tideswell community. It's a local resource for local people as well as a professionally run cookery school. The facilities and experts at the school help to teach people of all ages and groups how to grow, cook, make, brew, and sell local food and drink. Come to the school and you're likely to find local producers making products in our separate Commercial Kitchen, as well as visitors and locals learning about healthy eating, catering, retailing, and of course all aspects of cooking.

The School is the educational centre of the Taste Tideswell project- initially funded by the BIG Lottery Fund (BIG) as part of the BBC/BLF Village SOS programme as a way of inspiring a UK rural revival. Taste Tideswell exists to boost our local food economy and bring more prosperity to Tideswell, and by doing so preserve and develop our food retailers and manufacturers. Taste Tideswell helps locals and visitors alike to appreciate their food and drink for what it is, what it does, and where it comes from. When more people understand more about their food, we believe they will want to shop and eat more locally.

By choosing a course at Tideswell School of Food you will be supporting our wider aims and objectives and as a not-for profit organisation we plough back all surpluses into our educational programmes. We buy everything as locally as we can, employ local people, and support local enterprises as much as possible.
